Bucca Goes To See A Sports Medicine Specialist
During the Greenovation of Terra Verde Farm Project, Dr. Anna Marie's canine kid, Sambucca Della Notte ("Bucca" for short)suffered an injury to her right rear leg. The crew nicknamed her tripod because she was limping around on only three legs. Determined to figure out what was really going on, Dr. Anna Marie tracked down one of the top orthopedic canine specialist in the world. Bucca suffered from a full cranial cruciate ligament tear (equivalent to a human's Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL). From conservative to surgical, Dr. Anna Marie explores the best treatment choices for her pup. Key thing is-it's always important to get a second opinion when it comes to you and your family's health (2 legged and four legged!) |
Healing Power Of Horses
Therapeutic riding is proven to benefit the emotional and physical well-being of riders facing physical and emotional challenges. Riders find acceptance and camaraderie in the barn, and parents of special needs children find new, supportive friends. On this Tail End feature of the week, Dr. Anna Marie explores Chesapeake Therapeutic Riding (CTR) in Harford County, Maryland. CTR is proud to be Harford County’s only year-round therapeutic riding facility. Unlike many other therapeutic riding centers, CTR offers horseback riding lessons exclusively to individuals facing physical, neurological, and psychological challenges. These include (but are not limited to) autism, Down Syndrome, cerebral palsy, attention deficit-hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), seizure disorders, Asperger’s syndrome, and amputees . CTR’s program focuses on learning riding skills and horse related responsibilities in order to expand upon the physical, mental and emotional benefit of the rider. The gait of the horse provides consistent movement to the rider, relaxing muscles and improving balance. The non-judgmental nature of horses allows the rider to learn to trust and form lasting friendships. |
